Student Scheduling 2019/2020
August 5, 2019
Dear Student and Parent:
It’s hard to believe that there’s only three weeks left to the summer. The High School has been working hard on student schedules. All students’ schedules have been reviewed for adherence to student course requests. Schedules can now be reviewed, using the parent and student portals. Please note that these are tentative schedules. Students will be able to access their final schedule when they report to their Advisory period (first period of the day) on Thursday, August 29th.
Schedule flexibility is limited this year. While we will try to accommodate student requests, please understand a change may not be possible.
New Student Orientation is scheduled for Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. Freshmen and their parents are welcome to visit the school at this time. Students should bring their schedules with them for orientation. There will be student council members available to assist freshmen in locating their classrooms. General tours of the school will also be available. Any (non-freshmen) new students entering Burrillville High School are also welcome and encouraged to attend.
On the first day of school all students are to report directly to their advisory room BEFORE 7:30 a.m. Your child’s advisory teacher and room number are listed as period 3 on their schedule. An advisory list will also be posted on the wall at the student entrance on the first day of school.
We will have an extended advisory period on the first day in order for students to receive important forms to be completed and signed by parent and student. These forms must be returned to the student’s advisory teacher during the first week of school. In addition, if students have problems with their schedules, they can use this advisory period to email their guidance counselor to request a meeting to make any necessary changes to their schedule. Counselors will schedule these appointments during the first two weeks of school in order of priority. Requests for schedule changes will not be accepted after September 18th.
The remainder of the day will include some PBIS class/team building activities as well as an abbreviated schedule of all classes so that teachers can supply their students with a syllabus of the class and a list of any necessary supplies that the student will need to purchase.
If schedule changes are needed, please use the electronic calendar (below) to schedule an appointment with your child’s counselor.
Appointments will be scheduled in 15 minute intervals on the dates indicated. Please have all of your questions ready as counselors must adhere to the 15-minute limit. Due to time constraints, we will not be able to accommodate walk-ins. You must have a scheduled appointment to be seen.
If you are unable to schedule an appointment on the dates listed above, please be assured that all students will have the opportunity to adjust their schedule during the first 2 weeks of school.
There is a limited number of available seats in all courses. The guidance counselors will do their best to schedule what you would like to have. However, they will be concentrating on providing students with what they have to take.
As stated clearly in the Student Handbook, no course may be changed, dropped, or added after the 2 week add/drop period.
